While I dislike the depiction of Gabriel, I absolutely adore the depiction of Mary. It really captures the wisdom and holiness of Mary. To many Protestants Mary is just another biblical figure. However to those in Orthodoxy see her as a motherly figure. This painting really captures the innocence of her and "Motherness." I feel as though she would listen to all of my troubles and console me. She has this loving look that makes me want to love. It really captures her dueling nature of Virginity and Motherhood. So that's why I find it very beautiful.
This is majestic. It really captures the beautiful and terrifying plagues that were cast upon Egypt. The heavens opening really have me in awe. We (the materialist scum that we are) often forget that miracles are miracles and are amazing and awe inspiring. This image really captures that. It shows how God is bigger than the most intimidating enemies by the way the heavens cast down upon the massive city. God is bigger than any foe. It also just makes me want to adventure. The giant city feels so life-like and it makes me want to go explore all of it. I really wish more pieces were made like this.
